AND CALL CENTER
UCI is the second University of California-affiliated
medical group and the sixth major medical organization in California
to select RelayHealthSM
Emeryville, CA, May 20, 2003 - RelayHealth Corporation, the nation's
premier provider of Web-based, doctor-patient communication services,
today announced that the University of California, Irvine Medical
Center (UCI Medical Center) will license the full suite of RelayHealth
online communication services.
"People throughout the country say they want the convenience
of communicating with their physicians online," said Dr. Ralph
W. Cygan, CEO of UCI Medical Center. "We selected RelayHealth
to help us deliver a convenient, efficient online service that will
also protect our patients' personal health information while allowing
our patients to use the Internet to improve their ability to communicate
with their UCI physicians. Called UCI Online, the new program will
save patients time, streamline the communication process, and help
our doctors and their staff electronically manage non-urgent medical
requests. As partners with RelayHealth, we can ensure that UCI Online
continues to evolve and grow to the benefit of our patient and physician
communities. This partnership represents another important step
in making UCI
Medical Center a health care provider of choice for Orange County
and the surrounding region."
Implementation will occur in two phases. During the initial phase,
to begin immediately, 40 UCI primary care physicians will use the
RelayHealth service to communicate with their patients, staff, and
each other.
In the second phase, the RelayHealth service will be integrated
to the UCI call center, enabling a seamless, HIPAA-compliant channel
to facilitate communication tasks like appointment scheduling and
prescription renewals. In addition, UCI will upgrade UCI Online
to fully integrate RelayHealth services, including appointment requests,
medication refills, lab and test result reporting, referral requests,
and the webVisit® online doctor/patient consultation service.
Final results of an independent study issued in January 2003 documented
high levels of patient and physician satisfaction with the RelayHealth
service, as well as significant health care cost savings associated
with the service.
"We are both excited and honored to add UCI to our growing
list of large, prestigious medical centers selecting RelayHealth
to secure communications between providers and their patients and
peers," said Giovanni Colella, MD, president and chief executive
officer of RelayHealth. "We look forward to working closely
with them to expand the range of online communication services available
to patients, and to streamline the communications between the UCI
call center and their affiliated medical practices."
UCI Medical Center is the only university hospital in Orange County,
offering specialized and primary care services to patients throughout
the region. It provides outpatient family health services in Anaheim,
Irvine, Orange, Santa Ana and Westminster and has the county's only
Level 1 Trauma Center and National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive
cancer center.
