Authentor
Introduces SmartPath Web Access Management System That Predicts,
Adapts to User Behavior
ENGLEWOOD, Colo.(BUSINESS WIRE)June 12, 2001
System Incorporates Behavior-Based Profiling and Policy Enforcement
as New Approach to Manage, Secure Web Access
Authentor Systems Inc. today introduced SmartPath, an integrated
Web access management and authentication system that enables businesses
to cost-effectively provide employees, customers and partners with
secure access to online information and applications.
Consisting of hardware and software that incorporates Authentor's
proprietary behavior-profiling engine, SmartPath combines patterns
of user behavior with other forms of authentication to evaluate
security, improve user convenience and provide users with alternatives
when initial authentication methods fail or are no longer available.
In addition, the SmartPath system reduces hardware and infrastructure
requirements typically associated with stronger, high availability
security.
"Companies conducting e-business today are frustrated with
the technical complexity, cost and weak security associated with
managing user access," said Bob Forbes, founder and executive
vice president of Authentor Systems. "SmartPath solves the
challenges of traditional access management by anticipating and
adapting to user behavior and by authorizing access through role-
and trust-based policies. In addition, by simplifying user management
and logins through delegated administration and single sign on,
SmartPath helps businesses achieve operating efficiencies."
SmartPath supports all authentication methods, including passwords,
challenge-responses, behavior profiles, digital certificates, smart
cards, tokens and biometrics. The Web access management and authentication
system works with a variety of Web servers, including Microsoft
IIS, Apache, iPlanet, BEA WebLogic, Lotus Domino, IBM HTTP and others.
Gartner reports that 80 percent of U.S.-based enterprises will use
the Internet as an integral part of their business processes by
2004, and half will experience a financially significant loss due
to Internet-borne incidents by that time.
"As businesses make more information and applications available
to online users, the need to provide secure Web access grows exponentially,"
Forbes said. "In addition, privacy legislation, such as the
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and
the Gramm-Leach-Bliley law, are mandating that companies adopt better
security standards and practices."
